Beginning on the clarinet at the age of 12, Oscar would quickly show a fiery passion for music. Branching out to saxophone at 15 under the guidance of Tarko Sibbel, he began working hard to hone his technical, compositional and theoretical music skills. Over the past years he has been mentored by established Australian jazz musicians, such as Julien Wilson, Jamie Oehlers, Barney McAll and Toshi Clinch. Currently, Oscar is studying a Bachelor of Music, specialising in Jazz and Improvisation, and Bachelor of Arts at Monash University.
Oscar performs regularly around many venues in Melbourne alongside leading Australian musicians, such as Barney McCall, Audrey Powne and Toshi Clinch. He has been a member of groups such as the 2019 Sydney Invitational Youth Big Band, 2019 Melbourne Youth Big Band and 2020 Jazz Melbourne Youth Band, with one of Oscar’s compositions being recorded for the 2021 Jazz Melbourne album release ‘The Melting Pot’.
Oscar has won such awards as; the 2019 Pat Corrigan Musicians & Arts Fund Award at Generations in Jazz; 2019 Division 1 Superband Tenor Saxophone 1 at Generations in Jazz; 2020 Australian Saxophone High School Section Winner; 2020 Premier's VCE Award.
